Cure That Hangover Naturally

Once of the best ways to cure a hangover is to prevent one.  Since consuming alcohol is not recommended while taking almost any prescription or non-prescription pain reliever, these products should not be used either to prevent or lessen the effects of a hangover.  The side effects of mixing alcohol with these drugs can be harmful, even causing permanent damage.  It is best to stick with natural products and methods, and there are a number of natural products that can help you accomplish this task.

All natural hangover cures should include plenty of water.  Alcohol consumption dehydrates the body and the brain. Water can help to prevent a hangover if drunk before and during alcohol consumption, and it will help shorten the duration of a hangover if consumed upon waking.

In addition to drinking several glasses of water, mix a teaspoon of bifidus (also known as bifidum) into one of the glasses.  Bifidus is a natural bacteria that exists in the large intestine to promote digestive health.  It assists in the manufacture of B vitamins, inhibits the overgrowth of unhealthy bacteria and promotes regularity.  Bifidus reduces the level of acetaldehyde that accumulates as a by product of consuming alcohol.  This build up of acetaldehyde is one of the major causes of a hangover.  Taking a large dose of B vitamins such as B6, B50 and thiamine prior to drinking can also help reduce acetaldehyde.

Another natural hangover prevention remedy is milk thistle.  Milk thistle is an herb that helps prevent toxins in the alcohol from being absorbed by the liver.  Taking a couple of capsules with a meal prior to an evening of drinking will help protect your liver from the toxic effects of alcohol and help prevent a hangover.

One natural hangover remedy that can help once you have hangover is a concoction of lime and sugar water.  The sugar water helps stabilize your blood sugar and the lime stimulates your liver to process the alcohol toxins through your body faster.  Add 2 teaspoons of fresh lime juice and a quarter teaspoon of sugar to a glass of water; mix well and drink it slowly.

If you use essential oils, there are a number of them that can also help lessen the effects of a hangover while you wait for the alcohol to clear out of your body.  Put a drop of peppermint oil under your nose to ease that feeling of nausea.  A couple of drops of coriander oil on your stomach can also help with general stomach upset.  Frankincense oil on your upper right abdomen above the liver can help cool your body down and stop the sweats, while marjoram oil behind each ear can help muffle that pounding headache.  Orange or grapefruit oil can help lift your mood and vetiver oil on the top of the head can help clear the cobwebs out of your brain and help you regain your focus. You’ll be back to your cheerful self in no time!
